The dot painting is titled Pirlarla Jukurrpa (Dogwood Tree Bean Dreaming) and is mesmerising with its detail and colours.
Peggy was born on Gordon Downs Station in Western Australia and began painting with Warlukurlangu Artists in 1998. She paints her father’s Pirlarla Jukurrpa (Dogwood Tree Bean Dreaming), stories that have been passed down to him from his father and his father’s father for millennia. She learnt to paint by watching her mother, who loved to paint.
This ‘pirlarla’ (dogwood tree bean) Dreaming begins near Yumurrpa (a waterhole approximately 140km northwest of Yuendumu) and travels west. It goes to the country near the Yiningnarra range, south of Rabbit Flat and several hundred kilometers northwest of Yuendumu. There, women of the Nakamarra and Napurrula subsections travelled and collected ‘pirlarla.’
